The world’s most beautiful roundabout? Eindhoven elevates cycling infrastructure to high art

Commissioned for the Dutch city of Eindhoven, this jaw-dropping circular bike bridge is proof that when it comes to road infrastructure, practical can also mean beautiful.
The Hovenring replaces the usual combination of cycle paths and bike-friendly traffic lights that are commonplace at throughout the Netherlands, providing total segregation from traffic for people navigating the junction on foot or by bike.
Designed by ipv Delft, the bridge looks something like a cross between a flying saucer and an aerobie — an effect that is enhanced further when the lighting built into the inner circle of structure comes on at nightfall.
With the UK languishing decades behind our more forward-thinking European neighbours when it comes to provision for cycling, the Hovenring serves as an inspirational example of what can be achieved with a little love and money.
