Three friends. Three gears. Three hundred kilometres of road.

Everyone is excited about the Tour de France — the longest, toughest race in the world — coming to London. But (shhhhh) it’s actually quite an easy ride for the professionals with their bicycles-that cost-the-same-as-family-cars, nutritionally balanced meals and electronically shifted gears.

So we have decided to celebrate the Tour’s visit to the UK by riding from the capital to Paris on a different kind of machine: Transport for London’s cycle hire bikes.

Three friends. Three gears. Three hundred kilometres of road. (With no training). On a bicycle designed for short city rides. A reminder that you don’t need fancy equipment or clothing to enjoy the simple pleasure of riding a bike.

Follow the story as it happens at tourdecyclehire.borough.cc or on Twitter.

Our Grand Départ is this Monday 7th (as Le Tour arrives in London), and if all goes to plan, we’ll be cruising triumphantly along the Champs-Élysées by Friday.

A huge thank you to our supporters: James, Graham and James are riding on Transport for London’s cycle hire bikes, wearing Vulpine clothing, with an Airbnb roof over their heads each night, and returning home with tickets from Eurostar.

PS. The Borough bicycle briefcases that we’re travelling (extremely light) with are available for pre-order from Tuesday.
