Yesterday morning I spotted a tweet from The Albion with a heads up that freestyle BMX legend Bob Haro was going to be at the Hackney BMX park in Haggerston for a couple of hours.

Not knowing much about BMX I wasn’t sure where to start my conversation with Bob but luckily I had this photo of my buddy Stuart Free on his Haro Master Freestyler on my phone to break the ice. We compared notes on the CycleLove “human beings on bikes” philosophy in relation to BMX, and then he went back to signing photos and handing out stickers to the kids in the park.

It turns out that Bob was in town promoting his ‘Rise of Freestyle BMX‘ book which charts the story of the Haro brand; from his beginnings as a BMX racer and aspiring entrepreneur in southern California, through the years working for the BMX Action magazine as a staff artist, andright through into the 1980s. Head over to Westbourne Studios for the official signing event tonight (Thursday 22nd August).
